FAQ: Analysis Lead Investigator: Janice Marceaux Institution : University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) E-Mail : janicem23@gmail.com Proposal ID : 29 Proposal Description: The purpose of this paper is to examine the psychometric properties of a measure of functional abilities and to investigate the relationship between this measure and other standard assessment tools for dementia. Specifically, we propose: Aim 1: Determine whether the FAQ has multidimensional scale properties (2 or more dimensions). The FAQ will be evaluated through factor analysis to identify its underlying factor structure. Aim 2: Examine the relationship of factor scores with measures of cognitive and functional status. Specifically, to examine the correlation between FAQ factor scores and CDR sum of boxes, MMSE, and neuropsychological measures (i.e., WMS-III Logical Memory, WAIS-III Digit Span and Digit-Symbol Coding, Trail Making Test Parts A and B, Verbal Fluency [Animals and Vegetables], and Boston Naming Test) and use that information to find the best predictors of functional status for each FAQ factor. Aim 3: Determine whether FAQ factor scores differ among the diagnostic groups, including mild cognitive impairment (MCI), Alzheimer???s disease (AD), vascular dementia (VAD), Parkinson???s disease dementia (PDD), Frontotemporal dementia (FTD), and Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB). Background and Significance: Dementia refers to persistent impairments of cognitive function that affect a person???s level of independent functioning. In order to
